Drug intelligence / Profile preview
[43Sc]PSMA-617 (scandium-43 vipivotide tetraxetan) is a diagnostic radiopharmaceutical being developed as a positron emission tomography (PET) imaging agent for prostate cancer, specifically metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (mCRPC). It consists of the small-molecule ligand PSMA-617, which has high affinity and specificity for the prostate-specific membrane antigen (PSMA) overexpressed on prostate cancer cells, chelated with the positron-emitting radioisotope scandium-43. Scandium-43 is a promising diagnostic radionuclide due to its favorable half-life (3.89 hours), low positron energy, and lack of high-energy gamma emissions, which provides high-quality PET images with a lower radiation dose burden compared to other isotopes like scandium-44. Developed by the University of Chicago and the University of Alabama at Birmingham, [43Sc]PSMA-617 is designed to serve as an elementally matched diagnostic partner to the therapeutic beta-emitter [47Sc]PSMA-617, forming a true theranostic pair with identical pharmacokinetics to optimize patient selection and treatment monitoring.
