[55Co]Co-DOTA-hEGF is a radiopharmaceutical diagnostic agent designed for positron emission tomography (PET) imaging. It consists of human epidermal growth factor (hEGF) conjugated to the macrocyclic chelator DOTA (1,4,7,10-tetraazacyclododecane-1,4,7,10-tetraacetic acid) and labeled with the radioisotope cobalt-55 (55Co). The hEGF moiety specifically targets the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR), which is frequently overexpressed in glioblastoma multiforme (GBM). This tracer is primarily utilized in the context of convection-enhanced delivery (CED), a technique that bypasses the blood-brain barrier to deliver therapeutics directly into the brain parenchyma. By using [55Co]Co-DOTA-hEGF with dynamic PET/MRI, researchers can visualize drug distribution, calculate volume of distribution (Vd) to infusion volume (Vi) ratios, and optimize catheter placement for improved therapeutic efficacy in brain tumor patients.
