[68Ga]Ga-P17-079 is a novel radiopharmaceutical designed as a dual-targeting diagnostic imaging agent for metastatic prostate cancer, particularly those with bone metastases. It functions by binding to Prostate-Specific Membrane Antigen (PSMA), which is highly expressed in prostate cancer cells, and also targets bone tissue through a bisphosphonate moiety. Labeled with the positron-emitting isotope Gallium-68, it is utilized in Positron Emission Tomography (PET) scans to visualize and detect prostate cancer lesions, including primary tumors, lymph node metastases, and bone metastases. Preclinical and early human studies have demonstrated its safety and efficacy in detecting these lesions with high uptake and prolonged retention, suggesting its potential as an effective theranostic agent.
