[99mTc]Tc-TECANT1 is a radiopharmaceutical agent consisting of the somatostatin receptor subtype 2 (SST2) antagonist peptide TECANT-1 labeled with technetium-99m. It is developed for single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) imaging of neuroendocrine tumors (NETs), leveraging the high expression of SST2 on these tumors. As an antagonist, it binds to SST2 receptors on tumor cells but does not activate them, allowing for improved tumor targeting and diagnostic sensitivity compared to agonists. The drug is formulated as a freeze-dried kit for hospital radiopharmacy preparation and has demonstrated favorable preclinical safety and stability profiles. Clinical development has reached early phase 1 trials in Europe[1][3][4][6].
