Overview

[Pt(bipy)(IBgly)]NO3 is a platinum(II) coordination complex that has been studied as a potential anticancer agent. The complex is composed of a platinum(II) ion coordinated by one 2,2'-bipyridine (bipy) ligand, one N-isobutylglycine (IBgly) ligand, and a nitrate counterion. Its mechanism of action involves binding to DNA, primarily through electrostatic and groove binding interactions, rather than intercalation, as demonstrated by spectroscopic and computational studies[1]. The compound exhibits cytotoxic activity against human colon cancer cells in vitro, with IC50 values of 47.30 μM after 72 hours, and shows greater inhibitory effects compared to carboplatin, a clinical platinum-based chemotherapeutic[1].
