A combination supplement containing omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (ω-3 PUFA), polyphenols, and L-carnitine is designed to target metabolic health. This formulation has been studied for its effects on lipid metabolism, energy production, and inflammation. Mechanistically, ω-3 PUFAs are known to reduce inflammation and modulate gene expression related to lipid metabolism; they serve as precursors for anti-inflammatory prostaglandins and can lower triglyceride levels. Polyphenols act as antioxidants with additional roles in modulating metabolic pathways. L-carnitine facilitates the transport of long-chain fatty acids into mitochondria for β-oxidation, enhancing fat utilization for energy. Clinical studies have shown that this combination can significantly reduce plasma free fatty acid and triglyceride concentrations while increasing the expression of genes involved in fatty acid oxidation (notably via peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor alpha [PPARα] activation). The combined effect is improved lipid profiles and enhanced cellular energy metabolism[1][5]. This supplement is primarily used as a dietary intervention in overweight or hyperlipidemic individuals to support weight loss, improve metabolic markers, and potentially benefit muscle function[1][2][4].
