Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Meishiya (megestrol acetate) is a nano-crystal oral suspension formulation of the synthetic progestin derivative megestrol acetate. Developed using nano-crystal technology by TWi Pharmaceuticals and marketed in China by Jinsaixing Medical Technology (GenSci), this formulation significantly reduces particle size by approximately 20,000-fold compared to conventional formulations. This technological advancement improves the drug's bioavailability and allows for effective absorption regardless of food intake, eliminating the requirement for high-fat meals. Megestrol acetate acts as an appetite stimulant and is primarily indicated for the treatment of anorexia and significant weight loss due to cachexia in patients with cancer or AIDS. Additionally, it is being evaluated in Phase 2 clinical trials for the prevention of chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting (CINV).
