Overview

1,2-Dilauroyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine (DLPC) is a synthetic phosphatidylcholine, a class of phospholipids that are fundamental components of biological membranes. It features a choline head group and two lauroyl (dodecanoyl) fatty acid chains attached to a glycerol backbone. DLPC is widely utilized in biochemical and biophysical research, particularly in the study of lipid bilayers, membrane structure, and drug delivery systems. It has also been identified as an agonist for the Liver Receptor Homolog-1 (LRH-1) and plays a role in membrane-mediated cell signaling and enzyme activation, such as that of phosphatidylcholine transfer protein (PCTP). While phosphatidylcholines in general are found in dietary supplements and have been investigated for various therapeutic applications, DLPC itself is primarily a research chemical or a component in specialized formulations.
