1-acetyl-5-amino-4-(6-nitro-2-oxo-2H-chromene-3-sulfonyl)-1,2-dihydropyrazol-3-one is a synthetic sulfonyl coumarin derivative developed as a non-cytotoxic anti-angiogenic agent. Synthesized by researchers at the National Research Centre in Egypt, the compound is designed to target pathways involved in tumor angiogenesis rather than exerting direct cytotoxic effects. In vitro studies using hepatocellular carcinoma (HepG2) cells have demonstrated that the compound exhibits matrix metalloproteinase (MMP)-dependent anti-migratory activity. Molecular docking simulations indicate that the molecule fits within the active site of Matrix metalloproteinase-2 (MMP-2), where it forms a stabilizing ionic bond with the catalytic zinc ion (Zn++) via its acetyl group. This mechanism suggests potential for the compound to serve as a lead molecule in the development of non-toxic therapies for solid tumors like hepatocellular carcinoma.
