Drug intelligence / Profile preview
The 11-valent pneumococcal conjugate vaccine + AS02V is an investigational vaccine candidate developed by GSK Biologicals for the prevention of pneumococcal disease caused by Streptococcus pneumoniae. The vaccine consists of capsular polysaccharides from 11 distinct pneumococcal serotypes, which are conjugated to a carrier protein (Protein D, derived from non-typeable Haemophilus influenzae, for at least a subset of the serotypes). It is formulated with GSK's proprietary AS02V adjuvant system, an oil-in-water emulsion containing the immunostimulants MPL (3-O-desacyl-4'-monophosphoryl lipid A) and QS-21. This adjuvant system is designed to enhance the immunogenicity of the vaccine, particularly the induction of robust antibody and cellular immune responses. The candidate was evaluated in Phase I/II clinical trials in healthy adults but did not progress to regulatory approval in this specific 11-valent adjuvanted form.
