11C-PiB + 18F-THK5117 is a combination of two PET radiotracers used for imaging Alzheimer's disease pathology. 11C-PiB (Pittsburgh compound B) binds to fibrillar amyloid-β plaques, while 18F-THK5117 is designed to detect pathological tau deposits in the brain. This combination allows for comprehensive assessment of both key pathological hallmarks of Alzheimer's disease in a single imaging session. 11C-PiB shows increased uptake in frontal and temporoparietal cortices in AD patients, while 18F-THK5117 targets tau aggregates, though it has shown some limitations due to off-target binding to monoamine oxidase-B (MAO-B).
