13'-carboxychromanol is a research-stage small molecule and an endogenous long-chain metabolite of vitamin E (specifically derived from δ-tocotrienol and α-tocopherol) produced via omega-oxidation. It functions as a potent anti-inflammatory and anti-proliferative agent by inhibiting cyclooxygenases (COX-1 and COX-2) and 5-lipoxygenase (5-LOX). Additionally, it modulates lipid metabolism by inhibiting the SREBP1-SCD1 axis and interrupts de novo sphingolipid synthesis by inhibiting dihydroceramide desaturase (DEGS), leading to the accumulation of dihydroceramides and induction of apoptosis in cancer cells. Preclinical research, supported in part by DSM Nutritional Products, has explored its potential in treating ulcerative colitis, colon cancer, and pancreatic cancer.
