Overview

131I-Me1-14 F(ab')2 is a radioimmunotherapy agent developed by Duke University for the treatment of neoplastic meningitis and leptomeningeal metastases. It consists of a monoclonal antibody fragment (F(ab')2) labeled with the radioisotope iodine-131. The antibody fragment targets chondroitin sulfate proteoglycan 4 (CSPG4), an antigen expressed on various tumor cells, including melanoma and gliomas, but not on normal central nervous system cells. The drug is administered intrathecally to deliver targeted radiation directly to tumor cells in the cerebrospinal fluid, thereby minimizing systemic exposure and sparing healthy brain tissue.
