15(R)-methyl-prostaglandin D2 is a synthetic small-molecule analog of prostaglandin D2 (PGD2) that acts as a potent and selective agonist of the CRTH2 (chemoattractant receptor-homologous molecule expressed on Th2 cells) receptor, also known as the DP2 receptor. It exhibits approximately 5-fold greater potency than native PGD2 and significantly higher selectivity for DP2 over the DP1 receptor. Due to its resistance to metabolic degradation and high specificity, it is primarily utilized as a pharmacological research tool to investigate the role of DP2 receptor activation in inflammatory and allergic conditions, such as asthma, atopic dermatitis, and urticaria. Research has demonstrated its ability to induce cytokine secretion, such as eotaxin-3 and TSLP, in human keratinocytes and other immune cells.
