Overview

**188Re-MN-16ET + lipiodol** is a combination radiopharmaceutical drug consisting of the rhenium-188 labeled chelate 188Re-MN-16ET dissolved in lipiodol, an iodized oil. The agent is designed for targeted **radiotherapy of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC)**. 188Re-MN-16ET, made by labeling the tetradentate ligand MN-16ET with rhenium-188, offers high radiochemical purity (>90%) and solubility in lipiodol, which enables preferential retention in liver tumors following arterial injection. The delivered β-radiation (and some gamma emission) from rhenium-188 induces cytotoxicity in tumor tissues, exploiting the selective accumulation of lipiodol in hepatic tumors. Developed and studied primarily in preclinical rat models, this radiotherapeutic agent enables targeted internal irradiation for hepatoma with limited systemic distribution.
