Drug intelligence / Profile preview
188Re-N-DEDC + Lipiodol is an indigenously developed therapeutic radiopharmaceutical consisting of rhenium-188 (188Re) complexed with nitrido-diethyldithiocarbamate (N-DEDC) and formulated in Lipiodol (ethiodized oil). Developed by the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) in India, it is designed for transarterial radionuclide therapy (TART) or transarterial radioembolization (TARE) of inoperable hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), including cases with portal vein thrombosis (PVT). Rhenium-188 is a high-energy beta-emitting radioisotope (Eβmax = 2.1 MeV) with a half-life of 16.9 hours, which also emits a 155 keV gamma ray suitable for SPECT imaging and dosimetry. Lipiodol acts as a vehicle that is selectively retained within hypervascular liver tumors, allowing localized delivery of the therapeutic radiation while minimizing systemic toxicity.
