Overview

**2'-Deoxycytidine** is a naturally occurring pyrimidine deoxynucleoside composed of the nucleobase cytosine attached to a deoxyribose sugar. It is one of the four standard nucleosides in DNA and serves as a building block for DNA synthesis. In biological systems, it can be phosphorylated to form deoxycytidine triphosphate (dCTP), which is incorporated into DNA by various DNA polymerases or reverse transcriptases[8][10]. It also acts as a substrate for enzymes such as deoxycytidine kinase and deaminase. Pharmacologically, it has been investigated for its potential anticancer properties due to its ability to inhibit certain kinases (e.g., IL‑2 receptor kinase and Toll-like receptor kinase), inhibit DNA polymerase activity, and interfere with thermal expansion during replication[8]. However, it is not an approved pharmaceutical drug but has been studied in clinical trials primarily as an investigational agent[1].
