Overview

B16 is a synthesized bispidinone analog, chemically known as 2,4,6,8-(3)-Tetranitrophenyl-3,7-diazabicyclo[3.3.1]nonan-9-one. It has been shown to induce S-phase cell cycle arrest and apoptosis in HeLa human cervical carcinoma cells. The mechanism of action involves increasing reactive oxygen species, decreasing mitochondrial membrane potential, activating the caspase cascade, and modulating Bcl-2 family proteins, leading to a caspase- and mitochondrial-dependent apoptotic pathway.
