**Description:**\n*2,4-deoxy-4-Guanidino–5-N-acetyl–neuraminic acid* is a synthetic analogue of sialic acids and a member of the neuraminic acid derivative class. It is an experimental compound that acts as an inhibitor of viral neuraminidase enzymes. Neuraminidases catalyze the removal of terminal sialic acids from glycoproteins and glycolipids on host cells and viruses—a process essential for viral replication and release. By inhibiting this enzyme’s activity in influenza viruses (and potentially other pathogens), this compound can block virus spread by preventing efficient budding and cell-to-cell transmission[3][8]. Its mechanism is similar to that of zanamivir but with structural differences at specific positions on the sugar ring. The compound has been studied primarily in vitro as a research tool for understanding neuraminidase function; it has not reached clinical development or approval stages.
