Drug intelligence / Profile preview
2,4-Diamino-6-[N-(2',5'-dimethoxybenzyl)-N-methylamino]quinazoline is an experimental small molecule belonging to the quinazolinamine class. It was designed as a lipophilic inhibitor of dihydrofolate reductase (DHFR), with potent activity against DHFR from various species including Toxoplasma gondii and Pneumocystis carinii. The compound has demonstrated nanomolar inhibitory potency in vitro and has also shown inhibition of tumor cell growth in culture. Its mechanism involves competitive inhibition at the DHFR active site, interfering with folate metabolism essential for DNA synthesis and cell proliferation[1][5][7]. No approved clinical indications or marketed formulations exist for this compound.
