Overview

dsBPT (2,9-disecbutyl-1,10-phenanthroline) is a novel 1,10-phenanthroline derivative being investigated as an anticancer agent. Developed by researchers at Emory University and the University of California Riverside, it demonstrates potent growth inhibitory effects against lung cancer and head and neck cancer cell lines. Its mechanism of action involves the induction of autophagy and G1 cell cycle arrest at lower concentrations, while higher doses trigger apoptosis. In vivo studies using xenograft models have shown that dsBPT significantly reduces tumor growth both as a monotherapy and synergistically when combined with cisplatin, without observed systemic toxicity.
