Overview

**2',3'-Dideoxyadenosine triphosphate (ddATP)** is a synthetic purine nucleoside triphosphate analog in which the ribose moiety lacks hydroxyl groups at both the 2' and 3' positions. This modification prevents further chain elongation when incorporated into DNA or RNA by polymerases, making ddATP a potent inhibitor of DNA polymerases and reverse transcriptases. It is primarily used as a biochemical tool in molecular biology for Sanger sequencing and as an active metabolite of certain antiretroviral drugs such as didanosine (ddI). ddATP itself is not approved for therapeutic use but plays an important role in research settings[1][7][4].
