Overview

2-(3,4-dihydroxyphenyl)-9-diethylaminoethylimidazo[1,2-a]benzimidazole dihydrobromide is a synthetic small molecule benzimidazole derivative being investigated for its antitumor and antimetastatic properties. Developed by researchers at the National Medical Research Centre for Oncology in Rostov-on-Don, Russia, the compound is designed with structural similarity to naturally occurring nucleotides, a common strategy for developing agents that inhibit neoplastic cell growth. In preclinical mouse models of B16 melanoma and Lewis lung carcinoma (LLC), intraperitoneal administration of the drug demonstrated significant inhibition of primary tumor volume and a reduction in the number and frequency of lung metastases. The compound has shown a favorable profile in increasing life expectancy in these experimental models, suggesting potential for further development as a targeted cancer therapy with potentially lower toxicity than conventional agents.
