Overview

This entry primarily describes 2-(3-Mercaptopropyl)pentanedioic acid, also known as 2-MPPA or GPI-5693. It is a selective, orally active small molecule inhibitor of glutamate carboxypeptidase II (GCP II), which is also known as prostate-specific membrane antigen (PSMA), with an IC50 of 90 nM. It also functions as a NAALADase inhibitor. Research indicates its potential as an antinociceptive agent in models of neuropathic pain and for protecting against motor neuron death in familial amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. Additionally, it has shown promise in delaying prostate cancer growth and mitigating taxol-induced neuropathy. The abbreviation "MPPA" is non-specific and can also refer to other compounds, such as Methyl pyropheophorbide-a, a photodynamic therapy (PDT) photosensitizer used in research.
