Overview

This compound is a synthetic small molecule belonging to the class of biphenyl derivatives and is structurally a conformationally constrained D-Tic derivative. It has been studied as an experimental inhibitor of matrix metalloproteinase 8 (MMP8; also known as human neutrophil collagenase). The molecule binds to the S(1)' subsite of MMP8 and induces structural changes in the enzyme's active site. Its mechanism involves non-hydroxamate zinc-binding functions that interact with the catalytic zinc ion in MMP8. The compound has not been approved for any clinical use and remains at an experimental stage[1][6][9].
