Overview
The 23-valent pneumococcal polysaccharide vaccine (PPV23), marketed under the brand name Weimin Feile, is a polysaccharide-based biologic developed by Beijing Minhai Biotechnology Co., Ltd. It is designed to prevent pneumococcal infections, including pneumonia, meningitis, otitis media, and bacteremia, by targeting 23 specific serotypes of *Streptococcus pneumoniae*. The vaccine works through active immunization to induce serotype-specific protective antibodies. It was approved by China's State Drug Administration in August 2019 and is indicated for susceptible individuals aged 2 years and above, with a particular focus on high-risk groups such as the elderly, individuals with chronic diseases, and immunocompromised patients. Clinical trials have demonstrated that the vaccine possesses a favorable safety profile and non-inferior immunogenicity compared to other licensed PPV23 vaccines.
