This drug is a combination of three broadly neutralizing fully human monoclonal antibodies (2F5, 2G12, and 4E10) developed by Polymun Scientific for the treatment and prevention of HIV-1 infection. These antibodies target critical components of the HIV-1 envelope glycoproteins to block viral entry into host cells. Specifically, 2F5 and 4E10 bind to the membrane-proximal external region (MPER) of the gp41 glycoprotein, while 2G12 targets a carbohydrate-dependent epitope on the gp120 glycoprotein. The combination has been evaluated in clinical trials for systemic administration and as a topical vaginal microbicide gel formulation known as MABGEL. These antibodies are also widely utilized as reference reagents in global HIV research due to their well-characterized neutralizing profiles.
