Drug intelligence / Profile preview
2% fat cow's milk is utilized as a dietary control and placebo comparator in clinical research, specifically within a Phase 2 trial (NCT02534415) led by Dr. Marialena Mouzaki. In this study, the milk is administered to children with Non-alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD) to provide a standardized nutritional baseline against which the effects of soy milk and its constituent isoflavones are measured. Participants in the control arm consume the milk twice daily for 12 weeks. The trial evaluates changes in liver fat content via MRI PDFF and liver enzyme levels (ALT). As a common food product, it serves as a non-pharmacological intervention to assess whether soy-based alternatives offer superior therapeutic benefits for pediatric obesity and liver health.
