Overview

3,5,6,8-Tetramethyl-N-Methyl Phenanthrolinium is a synthetic small molecule belonging to the class of phenanthrolines and phenanthrolinium salts. It is an aromatic polycyclic compound with the chemical formula C17H19N2 and a molecular weight of approximately 251.35 g/mol[2][4]. The compound has been studied as an experimental agent and is known to act as an inhibitor of methionine aminopeptidase 2 (METAP2), an enzyme involved in cotranslational removal of N-terminal methionine from nascent proteins[1]. Its primary mechanism involves inhibition of METAP2 activity in human cells. There are no approved therapeutic indications or marketed formulations for this compound; it remains primarily a research tool.
