3α-amino-3-deoxy-1α,2α,25-trihydroxy-19-nor-vitamin d3 is a synthetic analog of the natural hormone 1α,25-dihydroxyvitamin D3 (calcitriol). It is characterized by the removal of the C19 methylene group (19-nor modification), the addition of a hydroxyl group at the C2 position, and the replacement of the C3-hydroxyl group with an amino group in the alpha configuration. Synthesized from quinic acid, this compound has been investigated for its biological activity in cancer models. Research indicates that while it possesses low binding affinity for the Vitamin D Receptor (VDR) and human Vitamin D-binding protein (hDBP) compared to calcitriol, it retains significant antiproliferative activity in breast cancer (MCF-7) and leukemia (HL-60) cell lines, suggesting potential therapeutic utility in oncology through both genomic and potentially non-genomic pathways.
