Overview

3',5'-Difluorobiphenyl-4-carboxylic acid is a synthetic small molecule belonging to the biphenyl carboxylic acids class. It features two fluorine atoms at the 3' and 5' positions of one phenyl ring and a carboxylic acid group at the para position of the other ring. This compound has been studied as an experimental agent for its ability to bind and stabilize transthyretin (TTR), thereby inhibiting amyloid fibril formation associated with TTR amyloidosis. Biophysical studies indicate that it acts by kinetically stabilizing TTR tetramers, raising the kinetic barrier for tetramer dissociation—a key step in amyloidogenesis[2][9]. Its primary use is in research settings; it has not been approved for clinical use.
