Overview

3-(1H-benzimidazol-2-yl)-1H-indazole is a synthetic small molecule belonging to the benzimidazoles class, characterized by a fused benzene and imidazole ring system attached to an indazole moiety. It has been studied as a chemical probe and potential inhibitor of viral proteases, notably the SARS-CoV main protease (also known as the "3C-like protease" or Mpro), which is essential for coronavirus replication. The compound's mechanism involves binding to and inhibiting this viral enzyme, thereby blocking viral polyprotein processing and potentially halting virus replication[9]. There are no approved therapeutic indications or marketed products containing this compound.
