Overview

This compound is a synthetic small molecule designed as an inhibitor of beta-lactamase enzymes. Beta-lactamases are bacterial enzymes that confer resistance to beta-lactam antibiotics (such as penicillins and cephalosporins) by hydrolyzing the antibiotic's beta-lactam ring. The compound acts by binding to and inhibiting the activity of class C (AmpC) serine beta-lactamases, thereby restoring or enhancing the efficacy of beta-lactam antibiotics against resistant bacteria. It has been studied structurally in complex with SHV-type and Enterobacter cloacae GC1 class C beta-lactamases[4][5][7]. The molecule is experimental and not approved for clinical use.
