Overview

This compound is a synthetic small molecule belonging to the class of quinoline carboxamides. It was developed as an experimental inhibitor of caspase‑1, a cysteine protease involved in the maturation and secretion of pro-inflammatory cytokines such as interleukin‑1β and interleukin‑18. Caspase‑1 inhibitors are being explored for their potential to treat inflammatory diseases by modulating cytokine release. Structural studies have shown that this molecule binds reversibly to the active site of human caspase‑1, significantly reducing IL‑1β secretion from human peripheral blood mononuclear cells without affecting IL‑6 levels[6][2]. The compound has not been approved for clinical use and remains at an experimental stage.
