Overview

This compound is a synthetic small molecule belonging to the diarylthioether and phenol chemical classes. It was identified as an inhibitor of homoserine dehydrogenase, an enzyme involved in the biosynthesis of essential amino acids (methionine, threonine, isoleucine) in fungi such as Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The compound acts by binding to the amino acid binding region of the enzyme's active site, with its phenolic hydroxyl group forming specific interactions with key residues. This mechanism disrupts fungal amino acid biosynthesis and has been explored for antifungal activity in experimental settings. It is not approved for clinical use and remains an experimental research tool[7][8].
