Overview

A synthetic small molecule compound with the formula C14H11F3N2O3S and a molecular weight of approximately 344.31 g/mol. It is a benzamide derivative featuring an aminosulfonyl group and a trifluoromethyl-substituted phenyl ring. This compound is primarily known as an experimental inhibitor of carbonic anhydrase II (CA II), binding to the enzyme with high affinity (Kd ≈ 2.3 nM). Carbonic anhydrase inhibitors are studied for their potential in treating conditions such as glaucoma, epilepsy, altitude sickness, and some cancers; however, this specific molecule has not been approved for any clinical use or indication[1][2][7]. Structural studies have shown its interaction with human carbonic anhydrase II in crystallographic complexes[6][7].
