Overview

4-(trifluoromethyl)-n-(4-(3-(4-(trifluoromethyl)phenyl)acryloyl)phenyl)benzenesulfonamide, also known as compound 20, is a sulfonamide-chalcone hybrid small molecule being investigated as a potential positive allosteric modulator of the gamma-aminobutyric acid type A (GABAA) receptor. It is designed for the development of next-generation antiepileptic drugs (AEDs) with improved efficacy and safety profiles. Preclinical research using molecular docking, molecular dynamics simulations, and pentylenetetrazole (PTZ)-induced seizure zebrafish models has demonstrated that the compound possesses high binding affinity to the GABAA receptor and a favorable safety profile compared to standard treatments like valproic acid.
