Overview

**4-amino-1,8-naphthalimide** is a small molecule inhibitor of the enzyme poly(ADP-ribose) polymerase (PARP), with a reported IC50 of 180 nM[1][4]. PARP enzymes are nuclear proteins involved in DNA repair, apoptosis, and several cellular processes. 4-amino-1,8-naphthalimide is used mainly as a research tool rather than a therapeutic agent and is notable for its role in potentiating the cytotoxicity of gamma-radiation in cancer cells, serving as a radiation sensitizer without direct cytotoxicity in the absence of irradiation[1][4]. It is also a fluorescent compound, useful for cellular imaging and as a molecular probe in various chemical biology applications[3]. To date, 4-amino-1,8-naphthalimide is not approved for human therapeutic use but is widely used in laboratory studies.
