**4-Bromo-2,5-dimethoxyphenethylamine** (commonly known as 2C-B) is a synthetic psychedelic drug of the phenethylamine class. It acts primarily as an agonist at serotonin receptors—especially the serotonin 5‑HT₂ receptor subtypes—and produces hallucinogenic and entactogenic effects. Its mechanism of action involves activation of these receptors in the central nervous system[1][2][8]. The compound is structurally related to mescaline and other members of the "2C" family. It is used recreationally for its perceptual and mood-altering properties but has no approved medical uses[1][3]. Metabolism occurs mainly in the liver via monoamine oxidase (MAO) and cytochrome P450 enzymes; metabolites are excreted in urine[6]. The drug is typically taken orally or by insufflation; effects begin within about an hour and last several hours[2]. Developed originally by Alexander Shulgin in the late twentieth century for research purposes, it has since become a popular club drug with no legitimate pharmaceutical development or manufacturing companies associated.
