Drug intelligence / Profile preview
5α,8α-epidioxyergosta-6,22-dien-3β-yl palmitate is a novel ergostane-type steroid isolated from the medicinal mushroom *Fuscoporia torulosa*. Chemically, it is a palmitic acid ester of ergosterol peroxide. In preclinical research, this compound has been evaluated for its cytotoxic effects against cancer cell lines, including MCF-7 (breast cancer) and PC-3 (prostate cancer). It also demonstrates antioxidant properties and inhibitory activity against enzymes such as acetylcholinesterase (AChE), butyrylcholinesterase (BChE), and tyrosinase. These bioactivities suggest potential therapeutic applications in oncology, neurodegenerative diseases, and skin disorders, although it is currently in the early discovery stage.
