Overview

5'-Guanylylmethylenebisphosphonate is a synthetic, non-hydrolyzable analog of guanosine triphosphate (GTP), in which the oxygen atom bridging the beta and gamma phosphates is replaced by a methylene group. This modification makes it resistant to enzymatic hydrolysis by GTPases. It is primarily used as an experimental tool in biochemical and molecular biology research to study G-protein signaling, ribosomal function, and nucleotide-binding proteins. By mimicking GTP but resisting hydrolysis, it can lock proteins such as G-proteins or translation factors in their active or inactive states for mechanistic studies[1][2][3]. There are no approved therapeutic indications for this compound.
