5-amino-1-(6-nitro-2-oxo-2h-chromene-3-sulfonyl)-1,2-dihydro-pyrazol-3-one (also known as Compound 12) is an experimental small molecule sulfonyl coumarin derivative synthesized for its potential anti-angiogenic properties. Developed by researchers at the National Research Centre in Egypt, it was designed as part of a series of non-cytotoxic agents targeting hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). In vitro studies using HepG2 cells demonstrate that the compound is non-cytotoxic but possesses significant anti-migratory activity. Although molecular docking studies show high binding affinity to the active site of Matrix Metalloproteinase-2 (MMP-2), biological assays suggest its anti-migratory effects in HepG2 cells may occur through an MMP-independent pathway. It serves as a lead compound for developing non-toxic angiogenesis inhibitors.
