Overview

**Description:** 5-Bromo‑2′‑deoxyuridine 5′‑(dihydrogen phosphate) is a synthetic nucleoside monophosphate analog of deoxyuridine. It is the phosphorylated (monophosphate) form of bromodeoxyuridine (BrdU), a thymidine analog. This compound belongs to the class of pyrimidine deoxyribonucleoside monophosphates and is used primarily in research settings as a DNA synthesis marker and for studying DNA replication and repair mechanisms. Mechanistically it can be incorporated into DNA in place of thymidine during cell proliferation assays. Its presence allows for detection by specific antibodies or other labeling techniques. The compound acts as an antimetabolite by mimicking natural nucleotides; when incorporated into DNA it can disrupt normal base pairing and interfere with cellular processes such as replication and repair. This property makes it useful for studying cell cycle dynamics but also confers mutagenic potential. There are no approved therapeutic indications; its use is experimental or limited to laboratory research[1][2][3].
