This is a combination chemotherapy regimen consisting of three drugs—5-fluorouracil, capecitabine, and oxaliplatin. 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) is a pyrimidine analog that inhibits thymidylate synthase, disrupting DNA synthesis and function. Capecitabine is an oral prodrug that is metabolized to 5-FU in the body, providing similar antimetabolite activity but with oral administration. Oxaliplatin is a platinum-based chemotherapeutic agent that forms DNA crosslinks, inhibiting DNA replication and transcription. This combination targets rapidly dividing cancer cells through complementary mechanisms of action and is primarily used in the treatment of colorectal cancer as well as other gastrointestinal malignancies[1][2][3]. The regimen leverages both intravenous (IV) and oral administration routes for convenience and efficacy.
