Overview
This is a combination chemotherapy regimen containing five components: 5-fluorouracil (an antimetabolite), cyclophosphamide (an alkylating agent), epirubicin (an anthracycline), granulocyte-macrophage colony stimulating factor (a growth factor), and methotrexate (an antimetabolite). Each component has a different mechanism of action in treating cancer. 5-fluorouracil and methotrexate interfere with DNA synthesis, cyclophosphamide prevents cancer cell reproduction, epirubicin interferes with DNA and enzyme function, while granulocyte-macrophage colony stimulating factor likely supports bone marrow function during chemotherapy.
