Overview

FEC100-T is a sequential combination chemotherapy regimen primarily utilized in the treatment of node-positive or locally advanced breast cancer. The protocol consists of two distinct phases: an initial phase of FEC100 (comprising 5-fluorouracil, epirubicin, and cyclophosphamide) administered every 21 days for 3 to 4 cycles, followed by a sequential phase of a taxane (most commonly docetaxel or paclitaxel) for an additional 3 to 4 cycles. The mechanism of action involves multiple pathways: epirubicin intercalates DNA and inhibits topoisomerase II; 5-fluorouracil acts as a pyrimidine analog inhibiting thymidylate synthase; cyclophosphamide serves as a DNA alkylating agent; and the taxane component stabilizes microtubules to inhibit cell division. This regimen is considered a standard of care in several regions, particularly in Europe, for high-risk early breast cancer.
