5-fluorouracil (5-FU) in combination with thermosensitive hydroxybutyl chitosan (HBCS) is an experimental adjuvant therapy being investigated by **Tianjin Medical University Eye Hospital** for the treatment of **chronic dacryocystitis** during endoscopic dacryocystorhinostomy (En-DCR). 5-FU is an antimetabolite that inhibits thymidylate synthase, thereby reducing fibroblast proliferation and preventing the formation of granulation tissue and membranous closure at the surgical anastomosis site. HBCS is a biocompatible, biodegradable, and temperature-sensitive hydrogel that functions as a physical barrier to prevent postoperative adhesions and promote healing. This combination aims to improve the success rate of En-DCR by maintaining the patency of the newly created lacrimal passage.
