Overview

**5-methoxy-N,N-diisopropyltryptamine** (commonly known as 5-MeO-DIPT, "foxy," or "foxy methoxy") is a synthetic psychedelic drug belonging to the tryptamine class. It is structurally related to other hallucinogenic tryptamines such as psilocybin, psilocin, and DMT. The compound acts primarily as a hallucinogen and has been widely abused for its psychoactive effects since the late 1990s[1][2][3][4]. Pharmacologically, preclinical studies indicate that it functions as a potent serotonin transporter (SERT) inhibitor and displays high affinity at serotonin receptors including the serotonin 5-HT1A, 5-HT2A, and 5-HT2C subtypes[5]. Its hallucinogenic activity appears to be mediated through agonism of these receptors. In animal models and humans, it produces behavioral effects similar to those of LSD and DOM[4][7]. Effects typically begin within about half an hour after ingestion, peak at around one hour, and last three to six hours; they include hallucinations, sensory distortion (notably sound), emotional enhancement or lability, nausea, muscular hyperreflexia, pupil dilation, relaxation or anxiety[4][7]. There are no accepted medical uses for this substance in the United States; it is classified as a Schedule I controlled substance due to its high potential for abuse and lack of recognized safety under medical supervision[1][4].
