Drug intelligence / Profile preview
5alpha-androstane-3alpha,17beta-diol is a synthetic or endogenous steroid belonging to the class of androgens and derivatives. It is a C19 steroid hormone with hydroxyl groups at the 3-alpha and 17-beta positions. This compound is a metabolite of dihydrotestosterone (DHT) and exhibits androgenic activity by favoring the development of masculine characteristics. It also has significant effects on scalp and body hair in humans. Notably, it can act as an agonist at estrogen receptor beta (ERβ), influencing neuroendocrine regulation such as inhibition of hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis reactivity to stress via ERβ activation in the paraventricular nucleus (PVN) of the hypothalamus[2][9]. There are no approved medical indications for this compound; it is considered experimental.
