Drug intelligence / Profile preview
The treatment for corneal edema developed by Eye-yon Medical (also spelled EyeYon Medical) involves the use of a 5% sodium chloride (NaCl) hypertonic solution in conjunction with the Hyper-CL therapeutic contact lens. The Hyper-CL is a specialized soft contact lens designed with a unique dual base curve and a reservoir that creates a cavity between the lens and the cornea. This reservoir traps instilled hypertonic saline drops, significantly increasing their contact time with the corneal surface and enhancing the bioavailability of the osmotic agent. The 5% sodium chloride acts as an osmotic agent, creating a gradient that draws excess fluid out of the corneal stroma, thereby reducing corneal thickness and improving visual acuity. This combination is primarily indicated for conditions such as bullous keratopathy, Fuchs endothelial corneal dystrophy, and post-surgical corneal edema following cataract extraction.
